Position Summary
St. Anthony Catholic High School, a private, college preparatory High school for young men and women, is seeking an Assistant Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach. This is a seasonal part-time position. Position is expected to coach sport within the mission of St. Anthony Catholic High School and our Core Values of Honesty & Integrity; Community; Service & Social Justice; Scholarship; and Holistic Education. The Assistant Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach reports to the Athletic Director.
This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you, as the employee, to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about Title IX violations. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Description of Job Duties
  • Assists the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport.
  • Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach.
  • Assesses players skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of athletes.
  • Assists with determining game strategy.
  • Assists the head coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Models good sportsmanship behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials and spectators.
  • Participates in special activities to include senior night, athletic banquet, booster club meetings, and pep rallies.
  • Works with the head coach regarding eligibility, inventory, and other related paperwork.
  • Attends staff meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of the sport.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents and students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to players, parents, and faculty.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
Required Education
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required Work Experience
  • Two (2) years of girls’ assistant coaching experience (or higher) in sport at the high school level or five (5) years experience AAU coaching at u16 or higher level. 
  • Note that high school or collegiate playing experience in this sport will be considered in lieu of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • UIL & TAPPS experience at HS level.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
  • Must have CDL (Commercial Drivers License) or obtain CDL as a condition of employment by assignment start date.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with the ability to be insured through UIW’s vehicle insurance carrier.
Work Hours
PT coach hours are Mon-Fri after school (school days only) from 3:30-5:30pm.

Typical for coach in this sport.
