Sonographer - Senior (Medicine -Cardiology)

Shift: Between 7a-9a start time, 8x5, 40 hrs per week

Job Summary:

Performs diagnostic cardiac ultrasound exams on clinical patients. Responsible for the independent operations of sonography equipment and communicating results of diagnostic and research examinations using sonography.

Job Duties:

1. Review, train, and coach junior level Sonographers with all processes and procedures.

2. Evaluates, synthesizes, and communicates diagnostic and information to the physician.

3. Performs diagnostic cardiac ultrasound exams according to established guidelines.

4. Performs high quality echocardiographic exams and collaborates with the cardiology staff to make accurate diagnoses of complex congenital and acquired pediatric heart abnormalities.

5. Provides preliminary reports for diagnostic assessments to physicians.

6. Provides optimal service to patients while respecting and demonstrating patient confidentiality.

7. Assists with research activities by collecting data and participating in research projects.

8. Performs all other duties as assigned.

9. Communicate urgent clinical information and ultrasound findings to the cardiologist in a timely manner.

10. Utilize systems such as Echo machines (Philips), PACS systems (Syngo) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) (EPIC) to obtain or enter appropriate care data

11. Obtains an acceptable and satisfactory diagnostic image, as determined by Cardiologists, for interpretation

12. Maintains and cleans ultrasound equipment on a regular basis, using sterilization techniques in accordance with the manufacturer standards

13. Processes digital images of specific structures while simultaneously obtaining doppler signals, and records images and doppler shifts, along with patient information for interpretation

14. Notifies Cardiologists of the results of examinations to provide preliminary diagnostic evaluations and identifies any significant findings that may require immediate attention and/or visualization while the patient is undergoing the examination and remains in the department

Education:

Associate's degree in related field is required.


Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Ultrasound, Radiology, Biological Sciences, or relevant health sciences field.  Philips and GE equipment experience preferred.

Experience:

Five (5) or more years experience in echocardiography and vascular sonography is required.


Preferred: Performs pediatric and fetal echocardiographic studies on patients in the outpatient setting.

Prior experience working as a lead sonographer is preferred.

Knowledge of ICAEL and process of certification of ICAEL is preferred.

Additional Licenses and Certifications:

Registered Cardiac Sonographer (ARDMS or CCI)


Registered Vascular Sonographer (ARDMS or CCI)
