Job Description:

The Assistant Director of New Student and Family Programs must have a passion for working with creative students, and excitement towards contributing to a positive, entrepreneurial, and vibrant campus experience. Reporting to the Associate Director of New Student and Family Programs, the Assistant Director is a student and family facing position that will assist in the implementation of all programs that support new students' acculturation and orientation to the college, enhance students' leadership potential and skills, and provide opportunities for students to participate in community service and civic engagement. In addition, the Assistant Director will assist in the development of a comprehensive Family Program and initiatives that integrates families into the Berklee Community, through a communication and engagement strategy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of all new and transfer undergraduate student orientation programs working collaboratively with academic affairs, student life and various campus partners, emphasizing academic success, student development and engagement.

  • Facilitate the logistical elements of New Student Orientation and Family Weekend, including scheduling, securing presenters, collaborating with campus partners, working with vendors, catering, purchasing, and organizing information and resources.

  • Create, edit, and oversee printing of relevant departmental documents including orientation schedules, flyers, calendars, and posters specific to New Student Orientation.

  • Manage parent/family programs and resources, in close coordination with the Director of Campus Life, and the Associate Director of New Student and Family Programs.

  • Provide timely response, information, and support to family members of Berklee students who seek assistance via telephone, email, and forms of social media such as Facebook and Instagram.

  • Assist in the selection and training of students, as orientation leaders.

  • Assist in the management of the orientation budget through accurate tracking and receipt reconciliation.

  • Implement campus-wide staff and faculty volunteer programs for New Student Orientation, ensuring that various members of the institution have the ability to directly engage with incoming students, parents, and families.

  • Manage the production of the electronic family newsletter and written communications from family members. .

  • Manage the room reservation process for Orientation and Family Weekend in close partnership with the Event Planning team.

  • Implement assessment and satisfaction surveys in order to closely monitor effectiveness of Orientation and Family Weekend programs.

  • Assist with Campus Life signature programs, including Best of Berklee, Midnight Madness, and other campus programs and traditions.

  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Director does not supervise any professional staff members, but oversees a small team of student employees.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Supervisors are responsible for maintaining an environment
that is free from discrimination, intimidation, coercion or harassment, including sexual
harassment. Work is performed indoors and primarily in an office setting. The noise
level is usually low to moderate. While performing the duties of this position, the
employee may be required to travel.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a bachelor's degree and preferred Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Education or related field. 2-3 years of experience in Higher Education or related field. Extensive experience in a college or university setting is preferred. Supervisory, project management, budget management, assessment experience preferred.
