Job Description

The Assistant Director for Web Services is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and execution of the College of Engineering, the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) and Texas A&M Engineering web initiatives. Responsibilities include; managing the development and support of the college and TEES web presence; maintaining brand consistency across all platforms for both the college and TEES.

The Assistant Director for Web Services works with the editorial and design teams to ensure that websites maintain brand consistency, editorial and graphic quality, along with consistency and adhere to best practices involving site architecture, navigation, process flows, page-level interactions, functionalities, usability and accessibility for both the college and TEES.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides oversight for website operations and strategy for the college and TEES.
  • Supervises web services team staff members.
  • Assists with the project management of Texas A&M Engineering web services projects.
  • Works closely with Texas A&M Engineering and the university’s EIR Accessibility Coordinators on accessibility compliance for the web. Remains up to date on the latest laws and regulations for accessibility and security of websites.
  • Remains up to date on user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) best practices.
  • Manages training, monitoring and mentoring of Texas A&M Engineering content authors and editors to ensure conformity of content and design across websites. Ensures that websites are compliant with Texas A&M University System, State of Texas and Federal regulations.
  • Collaborates with internal teams to ensure brand consistency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience:

  • Seven years of related experience including two years of related supervisory experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience managing web application developers and web development processes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of user interfaces (UI), user experience (UX) and content management systems (CMS).
  • Familiarity with ASP/ASP.NET (or similar language), SQL Server (or similar), MS Server 2008/IIS 7, JavaScript, AJAX, JQuery, JSON, XML, HTML, CSS, SCSS
  • Familiarity with debugging different web browsers;  Chrome, Edge, FireFox and Safari and mobile devices, Android and iOS
  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 standards
