 The College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology (CECH) is dedicated to making a difference in our communities through outreach, academic programs, and community partnerships. Our students and faculty work side-by-side with educators, athletic directors, community wellness experts, cybersecurity analysts, and local, state and federal law enforcement officials. About the Student Services Center

The CECH Student Services Center is home to our college’s undergraduate academic advisors, as well as our college’s Student Success Team, including retention specialists and our embedded mental health counselor.


Job Overview

As part of the CECH Student Success Team, the Assistant Director for Career Development will develop and lead a broad spectrum of career services and programming to facilitate the experiential learning and post-graduation employment objectives of CECH students and programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

 

The ideal candidate for the Assistant Director position should possess a strong ability to take initiative and think creatively in order to develop innovative strategies and programming to support student and program career development needs.

 

Standard Days Worked: M-F
Type of Appointment: Full-Time (12 Months)
Work Location: Hybrid. Office location is 360 Teachers-Dyer Complex. Position is eligible for 40% remote work.


Essential Functions
  • Design, develop and implement career development programs, services, and resources to support the career readiness of CECH undergraduate and graduate students.  Track and analyze career related data aimed at measuring outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the four CECH schools to develop curriculum and programming that prepares students for the job market, including developing skills necessary to navigate the “hidden curriculum” of academia.
  • Partner with schools to ensure PhD graduates are prepared for employment both inside and out of academia.
  • Host workshops and collaborate with faculty on in-class, career focused presentations.
  • Cultivate and sustain strong employer and alumni partnerships through community outreach efforts. Tracks/collects employment statistics of college graduates.
  • Develop relationships with employers and industry professionals to expand opportunities for internships, job shadowing, and post-graduation employment.
  • Provide internship/co-op assistance for students.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of career, internship and co-op fairs.
  • Stay current with trends and best practices in career development, higher education, and employment in relevant industries.
  • Perform related duties based on college needs.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree


Required Experience

Three (3) years of relevant work experience


Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering career programming and career advising services to students in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations, including underserved and international students, with sound equity and inclusion practices for student success.
  • Solutions oriented with a drive for innovation and a spirit of collaboration.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, plan, and follow-up on multiple tasks and projects
  • Comfortable with the use of technology (e.g., Handshake, etc.) and open to learning new systems and technology as needed
