Assistant Director, Fitness Programs (Personal Training)

Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Fitness Program will work collaboratively with Fitness colleagues with limited supervision from the Senior Assistant Director to develop, oversee, and administer comprehensive and progressive fitness programs maintaining program offerings and staff operations that meet the demands of the university community. Primary program management will be over the personal training program, while assisting with all other facets of the fitness program. This includes fiscal management, staff development, program outreach, and identifying and implementing program modifications to serve the fitness community more completely. This position will collaborate often internally as well as with other units on campus with fitness and wellness initiatives. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

What We Are Looking For

 

Education and Experience:
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, sports management, kinesiology, health education, human performance or other related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in fitness programming, preferably in a college setting
    • Will consider professional internship and/or graduate assistantship experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered
    • For example, an Associate's degree and four years of relevant experience
  • National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) personal training certification

  • Additional certifications

 

Skills:
Required:

  • Ability to independently manage all aspects of comprehensive fitness program
  • Must display ability to establish long- and short-term goals consistent with the mission of the university and the division
  • Ability to design and manage programs to meet the needs of a large, multi-dimensional department
  • Must show ability to build, develop, and cultivate relationships across campus with a variety of constituents
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement employee training sessions and supervise a student workforce
  • Successful candidate will be self-motivated, energetic, service-minded and adept at solving problems
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents
  • Must possess strong communication (written/oral) as well as interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with computer software (word processing, spreadsheet, electronic communication, etc.)
