SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director for Financial Aid & Scholarship, under general direction, provides a broad range of activities that support student success and financial literacy attainment, as well as, provides and promotes service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement. Provides leadership, administrative effectiveness and financial aid services, through an emphasis on individual attention to students and high quality customer service. Counsels and corresponds with prospective, current and former students on matters pertaining to financial aid while also providing students with accurate information regarding the application process, including federal, state, institutional aid programs. Develops, implements and evaluates a university-wide financial literacy program while ensuring compliance with university policy, Federal regulations, the Fair Debt Collection Act and FERPA. Provides leadership and direction to assigned staff.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages financial aid advisors in the college success teams, communicates job expectations, and performs employee evaluations.
  • Resolves problems and maintains customer satisfaction by providing problem-solving resources.
  • Accomplishes university human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, training, and coaching Success Team Financial Aid Advisors.
  • Determines customer service improvements by conducting surveys and studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes and establishing and communicating service metrics and monitoring and analyzing results.
  • Implements productivity, quality, and customer-service standards.
  • Contributes customer service information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews.
  • Enforces university and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Determines customer service requirements by maintaining contact with students and visiting operational environments.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Researches student financial resources and literacy issues.
  • Develops financial literacy curriculum and implements strategies to support and foster financial literacy to students, staff and faculty.
  • Develops partnerships with campus staff to promote financial literacy initiatives/programs and provides training workshops.
  • Works with faculty, students, services staff, Institutional Effectiveness and other members of the university community to identify populations of students who are most at risk of not completing their educational goals (e.g. students who do not meet standards of progress) and designs and provides financial literacy activities to improve student retention.
  • Assesses the financial literacy partners, products and services in order to provide credible personal money management education to post-secondary students, administrators, staff and faculty and other audiences as required.
  • Tracks and measures student outcomes (e.g. assessment of financial literacy learning).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Education, Social Sciences or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills: Six (6) years of related experience. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of financial aid programs and Federal regulations relating to student aid.  Knowledge of financial literacy and counseling issues and budgeting/debt reduction, problem-solving and intervention strategies. Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal rules and regulations.

Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to utilize computer technology for communication, data gathering and reporting activities. Ability to present information clearly and concisely to a diverse audience. Ability to work with diverse academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of university students and staff. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work in an environment with regular interruptions. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data. Ability to evaluate and implement Department of Education recommendations and regulations.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree, experience with Ellucian Banner Student Information System setup.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

This position provides direct supervision of Success Team Financial Aid Advisors.
