Job Summary
UChicago Career Advancement’s Careers in Business program builds on the world-class UChicago liberal arts foundation to give students a competitive edge in their professional development and recruiting in a wide range of businesses. Careers in Business provides expert advising, employer connections, and career exploration and experiential learning opportunities through two selective programs, the Trott Business Program (TBP) and the Financial Markets Program (FM). Additional open advising and programming resources are available to all students.
Responsibilities
- Supports UChicago’s Young Innovators Program, which empowers high achieving students for academic and career success in STEM innovation through experiential learning opportunities, mentorship from industry leaders, and a network of entrepreneurial peers.
- Advises Trott Business Program students and additional business-focused students, providing coaching on career exploration and strategies to attain meaningful internships, full-time roles, and graduate school opportunities. Uses industry and company knowledge to provide targeted, outcomes-driven guidance and support.
- Provides general career counseling to assigned 1st-year students, including assisting students with professional resumes, general career guidance and industry exploration discussions, and strategies to secure summer plans.
- Plans, designs and executes workshops and employer site visits, virtual or on-site, as relevant. Leverages virtual technology to provide innovative programs and fosters student engagement and satisfaction.
- Supports weekly Careers in Business communications promoting workshops, events, and job opportunities.
- Manages and administers treks to domestic and international business centers, virtual or on-site, as relevant. This includes, but not limited to, connecting with firms and alumni, and developing the trek schedule and logistics.
- Manages and maintains efficient methods to track student data, quantify student engagement, and report on student outcomes.
- Provides support as necessary for data management and analytics, correspondence, and reporting to senior leadership and other constituents. Creates presentations and executes additional projects as assigned.
- Collaborates with the Employer Relations and Development portfolio managers to develop relationships with employers that lead to on-campus recruiting for both internships and full-time opportunities.
- Advises and counsels students concerning employment opportunities and careers by acting as a liaison between students and prospective employers.
- Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings.
- Performs other related work as needed.

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree.
Experience:
- Background working with college-aged students and/or new recent college graduates strongly preferred.
- Developing and managing an internship program a plus.
- Expertise in program development, or a related area.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
- Minimum intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Utilize Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or other digital platform for meetings and events.
- Basic financial modeling and budgetary experience.
- Expertise in counseling, program development, or a related area.
- Knowledge of career development theory and strong coaching or counseling skills.

Working Conditions
- Work evening hours and weekends on an occasional basis, generally 1-2 days per month.
- Travel, generally two or three times per year.
