Assistant Director, Career Development

The Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism is seeking an Assistant Director of Career Services. Reporting to the Associate Director of Career Development and International Programs, with direction from the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs/Director of Career Development this position plans and implements programs, events, and other activities to increase alumni and employer engagement to further career opportunities for students. The position also aligns industry needs and interests with school priorities to establish innovative programming and educational resources to ensure students are career-ready upon graduation. 

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual advisement to undergraduate and graduate students on career issues and strategies, internship search methods, and resume and interview preparation
  • Leverage alumni career connections to benefit current students by inviting alumni to share their expertise through a hands-on career development workshop, alumni career/industry panel, or classroom lecture. 
  • Coordinate career panels featuring alumni and guest speakers to expand student knowledge of potential career paths
  • Support Annenberg Insights project to enhance student advisement practices and understand career pathway options
  • Curate and refine career education resources for students
  • Support student assessment to survey career interests to inform industry outreach.
  • Continuously research industry trends to stay abreast of changing employer hiring practices
  • Assist other staff members in Career Development with programming and events
  • Attend professional meetings and conferences to stay informed of industry trends

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred in Student Affairs or 5-7 years of full-time work experience, preferably in the media industry
  • Must possess strong organizational, written and oral communications, and relationship building skills
  • Must have the ability to be flexible and adaptable

Additional Information:

  • This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), hybrid, exempt staff position.

  • The monthly salary range for this position is $6,500 - $6,833. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Job Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree in counseling, higher education, human resources, or related field. Preferred Education: Master's Degree in business administration, counseling, higher education, human resources, or related field. Seven or more years’ experience in career services, human resources, recruiting, or related field, working with high Work Experience: 4 Years experience Preferred Work Experience: 7 years Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum work experience
