Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Assistant Director will serve as the primary administrator, resource and liaison for a large graduate program. Will liaison between administrative and academic sides of an umbrella graduate program with four distinct concentration areas and over 300 students and faculty. Duties include program administration, providing supplementary mentoring to students, participation in strategic planning for the program, design and operation of a student data management system, support of and participation in graduate-education related research proposals, supervision of the admissions process, organizing a professional development program, including teaching a related first-year graduate student class, and coordinating teaching assistantship assignments and other forms of student support.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in the Biological Sciences and five years of administrative experience managing a large
graduate program or related experience.
OR
Master’s in Biological Sciences or related discipline and 3 years of administrative experience managing a large
graduate program or related experience.
OR
PhD in Biological Sciences or related discipline and 1 year of administrative experience (potentially concurrent with graduate training)
Preferences:
PhD 
 
Experience using FileMaker Pro and with website development and educational information technology is helpful.

Physical Demands
Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. 
The successful candidate must be able to enter data into a computer and analyze it, perform clerical tasks using both paper and electronic formats, and manage extensive reading and professional writing.
