Job Description

The Geographic Information Science (GISC) and Geospatial Systems Engineering (GSSE) programs of the Department of Computer Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invite applications for a 9-month, non-tenure track Assistant Clinical Professor of Geomatics to begin in fall 2024. The programs are among the premier geomatics and GIS undergraduate, and graduate tracks in the United States and reside in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Our degree programs provide students with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities required by today's highly competitive and highly paid geospatial job market.  

The Department of Computer Science offers a BS in Geographic Information Science (GISC), which is the only combined geomatics and GIS focused program in the nation that is also accredited by the Applied Science Accreditation Commission of ABET. In addition, the department offers an MS in Geospatial Systems Engineering (GSSE), and an interdisciplinary PhD program in Geospatial Computer Science.  The department is an active community of 21 full-time faculty members that serves around 600 students.

The basic job requirements include:

  • Teaching 15 semester credit hours each semester comprised of undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in land surveying and geomatics.

  • Supporting the instructional and assessment needs of both the GISC and GSSE programs.

  • Recruiting and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Participating in and contributing to department’s service activities.

  • Representing the program and department at regional, state, national, and international professional geomatics society functions as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned MS or PhD in Geomatics, Surveying Engineering, Geospatial Science, or a related field.

  • Appropriate qualifications, at the minimum SIT (Surveyor in Training certification) or equivalent, to be able to pursue and obtain professional licensure as a land surveyor.

  • Experience teaching courses in land surveying and geomatics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of ABET accreditation and is willing to work with fellow faculty on the accreditation assessment process.

  • Licensure as a professional land surveyor in Texas or elsewhere in US.

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels in the field of Geomatics, Surveying Engineering, or Geospatial Science.

  • Ability to develop and teach courses in an online format and other modalities.
