Job Summary
Assistant Baseball Coach: Under the direction of the head coach, assists with planning, coaching, recruiting, administering, and promoting the University of Chicago Baseball Program within NCAA and University standards.
Responsibilities
Demonstrates a philosophy that emphasizes academic priorities for student-athletes.
Provides leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student athletes.
Develops training program; organizes all practice sessions to enhance team performance.
Evaluates individual performance and provide leadership and instruction in areas of deficiency as required.
Coaches Pitchers on Mechanics and Execution while utilizing technology to help pitchers understand design of pitches and Maroon Pitching Philosophy.
Conceives, implements, and supervises strategies to recruit academically talented prospective Division III student-athletes in the baseball program through scouting, attending tournaments, film review, high school and home visits, in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations. Initiates the submission of applications and handles the matriculation of prospective student athletes.
Serves as ambassador for the baseball program and articulate the mission to alumni, parents, and additional stakeholders.
Assists in the development of strategies to increase visibility and attendance at home and away events.
Ensures student-athletes and athletics representatives are informed of and comply with NCAA and University rules and regulations.
Works with the Athletic Director and Office of Alumni Relations and Development to raise funds and develop other fundraising activities to support the Baseball Program.
Counsels team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters; consult with University administration and faculty for resolution of problems as required.
Remains current with literature on coaching best practices, rules of sport; physiological and psychological sport applications; contribute and participate in professional organizations; attend clinics, conventions, and other meetings.
Participates in institutional professional development and training.
Works independently and guides work of groups of students throughout the academic year. Interprets issues faced by students and provides academic and professional advising.
Assists in developing and implementing travel plans.
Assists with the planning and execution of all team practice sessions and competitions. Evaluates the performance of the team and individual student-athletes in order to instruct and advise on technical, strategic, and mental development.
Participates in the development and implementation of an overall recruiting plan.
Participates in staff meetings and a range of social and academic program events.
Helps staff to plan and execute events.
Works with small groups of students to help them improve in the subject area and hold office hours to speak individually with students.
Performs other related work as needed.

- Master's degree.
- CPR & AED certification.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Proficient in computer skills; Microsoft Office and other software.
Preferred Competencies
Excellent communication skills.
Familiarity with NCAA rules and Division III philosophy required.
Excellent verbal and written communication required.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments concurrently.
