New Position to Begin | |
Details | The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) and the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute at the University of Utah are jointly recruiting an early or mid-career (Assistant or Associate level) Tenure Track faculty position as part of a new collaborative initiative. This hire will expand the core research expertise at the SCI Institute and DBMI, further enhancing their strong research reputation in scientific, information, and biomedical visualization; image and data analysis; and interdisciplinary scientific computing. A major goal is to enable new partnerships across the University and beyond. We are particularly interested in candidates with demonstrated expertise in clinical informatics, or clinical research informatics, with a focus on applying computation (including Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence) and/or visualization methods. Specific possible expertise areas include integration and analysis of heterogeneous electronic health records, natural language processing, clinical trials data analysis, image-based modeling, and the synthesis of multi-modal data sources. Examples of some associated application areas for which strong collaborative opportunities exist at the University of Utah include, but are not limited to, computational psychiatry, computational anesthesiology and OR/ICU monitoring, and digital biomedical twins. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to perform word-class, collaborative research in these areas by a strong publication record in highly ranked conferences or journals. Prior experience with national funding agencies, such as NIH, DOD, AHRQ, HRSA, or NSF, is highly desirable. Candidates are expected to have a PhD degree from a quantitative field, such as Biomedical informatics, computer science, engineering, computational biology, applied mathematics, statistics, applied physics, etc. Candidates with a professional doctoral degree (MD, PharmD, DNP, DDS, DO, etc.) are also welcome to apply if they have a demonstrated track record in the relevant areas and have previous training in the quantitative fields listed above. All candidates are invited to submit a curriculum vitae; a cover letter containing a description of professional experience (including scientific accomplishments, leadership responsibilities, and 3 references external to the University of Utah); a research plan (up to 3 pages); and a teaching strategy (up to 1 page). This research should fit in the context of the SCI Institute’s mission of multidisciplinary bridge building (https://www.sci.utah.edu/the-institute/bridges.html) and the overall academic mission of the Department of Biomedical Informatics (https://medicine.utah.edu/dbmi/about/mission). For over more than two decades, the SCI Institute has established itself as an internationally recognized leader in translational innovations across computational and data science with leading research and training programs in the areas of visualization, scientific and biomedical computing, and image analysis applied to a broad range of challenging problems. For example, the SCI Institute is ranked by CSRankings (http://csrankings.org) as housing the top visualization group internationally. SCI also pursues a passionate interest in educating trainees and staff in the practice of research. The SCI Institute is proud to have supported over 400 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and nearly 100 undergraduates to achieve an education at the cutting edge of research. SCI graduates move into faculty positions with universities internationally and become innovators with companies such as Apple, Exxon Mobil, Nvidia, Google, Intel, Boston Scientific, Orthogrid, Philips Medical, Massimo, and Medtronic.
