ANTHROPOLOGY TENURE TRACK FACULTY

SALARY: $81,219 - $82,551

LOCATION: Lynnwood, Washington

DESCRIPTION: Edmonds College is seeking an Anthropology Tenure Track Faculty member. This position is enabled by the Our Colleges, Our Future Act of 2021 to guarantee equitable access and educational success for all, particularly for students from communities of color and low-income communities. The college seeks faculty who demonstrate enthusiasm for learning, can adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can employ student-centered approaches and instructional technology effectively, and work collaboratively with students, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity, equity, inclusion, and student learning and success.

As an Anthropology Faculty, you will be responsible for teaching and providing leadership in various Anthropology courses, including, but not limited to Survey of Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology, and Bioanthropology.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing an inclusive and equitable curriculum, preparing teaching materials, developing and assessing learning outcomes to evaluate student work, assigning grades, maintaining required records, academic advising, and consulting with students. Other responsibilities include department head duties; participating in achieving the college's mission and goals; upholding the college's values; college governance via department and division work; committee assignments; required professional development and college in-service activities (including employee orientation and college compliance training); and personal and program evaluation. The teaching assignment may include early morning, late afternoon, evening, weekend, or online classes. This is a tenure-track position reporting to the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences and has an anticipated September 2024 start date and will have a 9-month service period.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Arts or Sciences degree from an accredited institution in Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, American Indian and Indigenous Studies, Archaeology, Bioanthropology, OR related discipline with substantive graduate level course work, teaching, and/or research in Anthropology.
  • Evidence of successful college-level teaching experience in Anthropology courses with students from a wide range of backgrounds and levels of preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to address differences among learners (e.g. ability, race, and gender) as evidenced by research, teaching, mentorship or service, and experience in addressing inequalities in access, learning, and achievement.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in a classroom, office, or online from home and requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. The ability to communicate effectively is essential. Instructors are required to use a computer in the work environment.

COMPENSATION:

The salary is based on the current faculty salary schedule; placement is based on education. The current range is $81,219 to $82,551 annually for a 172-day appointment with progressive increases to $98,518.56 annually. The college provides an excellent benefits package which includes medical, dental, life insurance, and a retirement plan.

  • Discuss your approach to making anthropological concepts relevant to today's and engage students with those connections. As you do, describe your experience using High Impact Practices (e.g. undergraduate research, service-learning,fieldwork, community outreach or global service projects), creative program and curriculum development, or other ways to enhance and apply student learning in Anthropology and, if applicable, across the campus curriculum. Provide specific examples.
