Job Description

The Agency Instructor II will assist the ILEPSE Division within the Law Enforcement Extension (LEX) Program in delivering and developing courses and exercises related to courtroom testimony within the Criminal Justice System. This individual will utilize their knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction.  May perform online and/or classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and/or provide technical assistance in a specialty area. Will use a variety of media to present course material.  May assist with course curriculum content, when necessary, to meet learner needs. The instructor will aid in quality control pertaining to maintaining records, reports, and documentation of activities during each course or exercise delivery. This position reports to the Training Manager.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university

  • Five years of experience practicing criminal law

  • Two years of adult education and/or training

Required Licenses/Certifications: 

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • License to practice law

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ten years of experience practicing criminal law

Physical Requirements:

  • Regular use of computer/keyboard

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing

  • Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours day (standing)

  • Some lifting/carrying of classroom/presentation materials, up to 30lbs.

  • Ability to independently travel by vehicle or commercial flight regularly for extended periods of time

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Advanced working knowledge in criminal justice and criminal law

  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and course curriculum

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with others

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

  • Ability to interact with senior leaders in Higher Education

  • Knowledge of basic office software and instructional programs

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups

  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods

  • Ability to facilitate and instruct groups of various sizes

Notifications: 

  • This position is security-sensitive.

  • This position requires up to 50% travel.

  • This position allows for telecommuting.

  • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

  • This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.

  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.

Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages: 

Provides instruction and delivery support for all assigned courses - 85%:

  • Confirms training assignments, locations, and coordinates scheduling with program area personnel.  Sets-up training room/site prior to the participants' arrival  

  • Delivers course of instruction in accordance with the approved Plan of Instruction/course curriculum  

  • Participates in hot-wash debrief with the instructional team, as applicable, to determine delivery areas of improvement  

  • Adheres to dress codes and other employee guidelines as established by the Agency, Division, and/or Program  

  • Coordinates personal travel according to TAMU System and State policies and guidelines   

  • Submits reports (After-Action-Reports, Expense Reports, etc.) according to System, Agency, and Program policies and guidelines  

  • Accomplishes periodic mandatory training as assigned

Serves as subject matter expert for assigned curriculum updates and revisions - 10%:

  • Assists curriculum development team in the development of new, or revision of existing, curriculums  

  • Researches and reviews data and course related information  

  • Assesses instructional materials to determine continued use and relevance  

  • Supports training of staff as needed

Fiscal Responsibility – 5%:

  • Makes sound fiscal decisions in the planning and execution of course deliveries 

  • Submits pre and post travel paperwork in a timely and accurate manner 

  • Submits timesheets within the required time frame and complete all required TAMUS training within the requested due dates

  • Completes periodic mandatory training as assigned

Other Duties:

  • Performs additional work duties as assigned
