General Summary:

The Agency Instructor I, under direction, assists in training various specialty skilled and/or semi-skilled courses within the Transportation Program. Responsible for utilizing knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to help maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. Performs online and/or classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and/or may provide technical assistance in a specialty area. Uses a variety of media to present course material. Assists in creating new and/or updating curriculum content, when necessary, to meet learner needs. Maintains technical competence and skills. This position reports to the Agency Training Coordinator.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Four years of experience in transportation related discipline.

  • One year of adult education and/or training.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

  • Must have a valid Class A or Class B Texas Commercial Driver License that has been held for a minimum of two years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Five or more years in a transportation related discipline.

  • Knowledge of Texas Department of Public Safety and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations.

  • Third-Party Skills Test Examiner.

  • Five or more years of adult education and/or training.


Physical Requirements:

  • Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) during instruction, and movement of light, moderate, and/or heavy training equipment, and instructional materials.

  • Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day.

  • Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, cold and heat.

  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladders to mount/dismount equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced working knowledge and understanding of requirements to obtain a commercial driver license and training.

  • Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs.

  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and classroom management skills.

  • Ability to interact respectfully and professionally with all levels of management, staff, students, and customers.

Equipment:

  • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.

  • PPE as necessary.

  • Commercial Motor Vehicles.

Notifications:

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.

  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.

  • As part of TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/HQ Department Head.

  • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.

Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

Training Delivery and Program support - 80%

  • Delivers course instruction and provides technical assistance for Transportation Program and ensures that the course is effectively and efficiently presented in accordance with TEEX certified curricula and customer contracts.

  • Arrives before course is scheduled to ensure classrooms and training areas are prepared for class delivery, to include safely setting up and disassembly of equipment, course props and other materials.

  • Develops instructional techniques and uses a variety of learning techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles for presenting course material.

  • Facilitates collaborative class discussions, monitors performance, and ensures all participants have achieved terminal objectives of the course.

  • Facilitates after action reviews with participants at the completion of exercises.

  • Evaluates and assesses instructional effectiveness and adjusts delivery plan as necessary.

  • Submits all required reports for assigned course in a timely manner upon completion of the course.

  • Ensures training/exercise materials, training aids, and classrooms/exercise locations are secured and accounted for upon completion of the course.

  • Develops and maintains subject matter expertise to include current and emerging issues.

Transportation Program Course Development and/or Revision - 10%

  • Assists with developing and/or updating customized lesson plans, outlines, training aids, manuals, and scenarios for practical application.

  • Assists with reviewing curriculum and/or instructional materials to ensure relevance to current doctrine and best practices.

  • May assist with developing and overseeing quality control of exercises/scenarios as applicable.

  • May assist with modifying or developing course content to meet changing needs and objectives, includes visuals and instructional materials to meet specific education and program requirements.

Training Documentation – 10%

  • Ensures class documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Division Guidance, Agency and Contractual requirements (if applicable).

  • Assists the Training Manager with customer interactions.

  • Assists in the marketing of division programs and events to potential customers and students.

  • Ensures requests for travel and post travel claim documentation are completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Division and Agency guidance.


Additional Program/Division responsibilities:

  • Completes all required TAMUS required training and maintains required professional credentials.

  • Participates in professional development opportunities.

  • Maintains involvement with Agency Initiatives (CoP’s, committees, etc.).

  • Actively demonstrates the TEEX Values – Safety, Teamwork, Adaptability, Respect, and Stewardship.

  • Actively participates in team meetings and events.

  • Maintains and safeguards assigned divisional equipment and property.

  • Performs additional work duties as assigned.
