Position Summary and Duties
The admission counselor position is essential to supporting the enrollment goals of Loyola and to ensuring the current and future academic quality and fiscal health of the University. Responsibilities include representing the University both on and off-campus to prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college search and selection process. Attract and evaluate Loyola University admission candidates, answer questions and advise prospective students and their families on procedures and requirements for admission. Manage projects, create programs, and coordinate events designed to recruit prospective students and college counselors. Maintain liaison externally with college counselors and internally with many Loyola academic and administrative offices.
Essential Functions:
Territory Management:
  • Responsible for territory management based upon institutional priorities including planning and executing a detailed travel plan which supports an overall recruitment strategy for the Office of Admission.
  • Participate in recruitment activities for assigned high schools and territories, including travel to distant sites in the state and nationally.
  • Promote the university to prospective students, parents/guardians, and college counselors, by coordinating travel to and attending individual programs including high school visits, college fairs, panels, college admission workshops, case study programs, and non-evaluative interviews.

Application Review:
  • Review and evaluate applications for admission including recommending admission decisions for applicants.
  • Provide data management by monitoring and updating student information.

Virtual Recruitment:
  • Participate in virtual recruitment initiatives including online college fairs and online high school visits.
  • Coordinate and host online programs including online interviews, college admission workshops, essay writing workshops, academic and special interest information sessions, ambassador panels, and online Loyola admission presentations.

Event Planning:
  • Participate in various on-campus student visit programs designed to recruit targeted prospective applicants, including open house programs, campus tours, information sessions and accepted student programming. Represent university through public speaking presentation for prospective students.
  • Collaborate with other departments and offices across campus to support recruitment and admission activities.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of on-campus events and programs for groups and individuals.

Counseling:
  • Counsel prospective applicants on the admissions process and opportunities at the University.
  • Provide one-on-one admission counseling to applicants by in-person appointments, phone calls and emails.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience required in admission, customer service, or a related field. Up to 1 year of student work experience in admission, student leadership, or customer service can be accepted.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, planning, organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate skills and capabilities in public speaking, and presentations of marketing materials.
  • Demonstrate ability to articulate the value and benefits of a liberal arts education to a variety of audiences.
  • Proficient in recruitment and office software including Slate, and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to represent the University in a variety of settings maintaining professional and ethical standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and supportively with other individuals and groups.
  • Confidentiality: must safeguard the confidentiality of student, staff and College information by exercising discretion in communicating information to faculty, staff, parents, alumni and current and prospective students, and in handling departmental records and files and similar confidential materials.
  • Cultural competency and ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to express a sincere appreciation of high school and college-age students and the varied nature and expectations of serving that population.
  • Evening and weekend hours as required, especially during recruitment season.
