Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Coordinator provides a wide variety of support for the Department of Government and Politics administrative office. The candidate will be responsible for a variety of administrative support to the department and is primarily responsible for the management and administration of department facilities, inventory, events and alumni outreach.
Essential job duties will include:
  • Facilities and Inventory management.
  • Event Organization and Coordination: Organize and manage the logistics of all department, and alumni events, ensuring all details are well managed.
  • Alumni Outreach: Collaborate with the Department Chair and relevant stakeholders to develop and execute strategic initiatives that enhance alumni engagement with the department, Build and maintain relationships with department alumni.
  • Other duties associated with this position include maintaining the Program’s website and social media accounts.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of relevant work experience.
Experience:
2 years experience working in an office environment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Excellent organizational, planning, communication interpersonal, written and verbal skills, strong assessment and problem solving skills.
  • The successful candidate will be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in MS Office suite.
Preferences:
Preferences:
  • 2 years prior experience managing University Social Media Accounts.
  • Proficiency in UMD systems – Concur, KFS, TCard, PCard, inventory and scheduling.
  • Proven experience in facilities coordination or related role. Knowledge of facilities management best practices.

Physical Demands
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Repetitive motion. Substantial movement of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Must have the ability to lift and small carry parcels, packages and other items, and to walk short distances to deliver and pick up materials. Must have a valid driver’s license be able to walk and stand for long periods of time, in order to meet the needs of the event. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required.
