Job Description

Works under supervision and performs entry-level administrative support work.

Responsibilities:


-Performs office receptionist duties. Greets visitors; answers visitors' questions and telephone inquiries concerning routine/familiar topics; and properly refers questions on unfamiliar topics to immediate supervisor or other appropriate staff members.

-Assists in the maintenance of administrative office files. This includes retiring records when necessary in accordance with the appropriate federal and state records management procedures.

-Performs duties as alternate timekeeper for federal and cooperative employees. Assists in performing leave audits and electronically transmitting biweekly time and attendance reports, assists in maintaining official time and attendance records, and ensuring that all required time and attendance documentation is on file. Assists employees with questions concerning time and attendance regulations.

-Shares in responsibility of processing incoming and outgoing mail. Date received stamp is required on all incoming mail. Outgoing mail includes first class, express, parcel post, certified, and registered material.

-Copies miscellaneous memoranda, correspondence, technical reports, newsletters, etc., and distribution as necessary.

-Performs other related duties as requried.

Education and Experience:


-High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-One year of experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Effective verbal and written communication skills.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Proficient in working with a wide variety of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus and computer equipment; collecting samples, performing analyses, chemical procedures, and familiarity with data entry and computer records. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
