Job Description

The Division of Social Sciences seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable individuals to join our Geography Department as Adjunct Faculty members. The successful candidates will be responsible for teaching courses in Intro to Human Geography and World Regional Geography. Preference will be given to candidates with proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.

Responsibilities:

  • Course Instruction: Deliver engaging and effective instruction in Intro to Human Geography and World Regional Geography, covering key concepts, theories, and geographical principles.

  • Course Preparation: Develop syllabi, lesson plans, and course materials that align with the department's curriculum and learning objectives.

  • Student Engagement: Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging active participation and critical thinking among students.

  • Assessment and Grading: Evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, and projects. Provide timely feedback and grades.

  • Office Hours: Be available for regular office hours to provide academic support and guidance to students

  • GIS Integration (Preferred): If applicable, incorporate Geographic Information Systems (GIS) into course content and assignments to enhance students' spatial analysis skills.

  • Professional Development: Stay updated on developments in the field of Geography and participate in relevant professional development opportunities.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with department faculty and staff to ensure the alignment of course content with departmental goals.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree or higher degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a related field.

  • Prior teaching experience at the college level is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated expertise in Intro to Human Geography and World Regional Geography.

  • Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is highly desirable.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
