Job Title: Adjunct Instructor Clinical Practices in Speech Sound Disorders (ComD 690)

Job classification:  Adjunct Faculty - Teaching Position Day Class, twice a week, 3 credits

Required Degree: Masters in Communication Disorders - Must have required degree by start date.

Preferred: CCC-SLP Speech Language Pathologist

Experience:

  • Clinical work experience with a variety of clients with speech sound disorders
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based practices for standardized and non-standardized assessments, motor based and cognitive linguistic treatment approaches, and documentation principles related to intervention of speech sound disorders
  • Transcribing disordered speech using International Phonetic Alphabet
  • Familiarity with current evidence- based research regarding clinical practice in speech sound disorders
  • Teaching experience is a benefit

Duties/ Expectations:

Prepare and teach the graduate Clinical Practices in Speech Sound Disorders  course twice a week, in person on BYU Campus. 

An ability to teach:

  • The course of normal phonological acquisition and speech development in children
  • Basic phonetics terminology
  • Evidence-based assessment practices  including standardized and non-standardized measures
  • Evidence-based Intervention principles including elicitation of speech sounds, motor based and cognitive linguistic treatment approaches
  • Differential diagnosis  and treatment strategies for childhood apraxia of speech
  • Culturally Responsive Practices
  • Course materials with a gospel methodology  aligned with the BYU mission and Aims
