Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a part-time Lead! Working under the supervision of the OAC Manager and Climbing Wall Coordinator, the Assistant Supervisor of the Outdoor Adventure Center supervises the day-to-day operations of the Outdoor Adventure Center, which includes, rental and retail operations, reservations, and managing equipment inventory and trip registrations on POS system. Assists with the development of the Point of Sale System. Assists with training and evaluation of shop employees.


Summary of Responsibilities

  • Assists in supervising, training, and evaluating shop employees. Instructs employees on shop policies and procedures as well as training methods for weekly meetings on sales, merchandise, returns, cash handling, trip information, and POS systems.  
  • Assists shop manager with daily operations, deposits, tracking, equipment inventory, customer service, adventure learning excursion information, POS system, and maintenance. Also assists in store media presence. 
  • Assists with developing shop budgets and purchasing equipment and office supplies. Ensures proper pricing and marketing of inventory. Maintains a list of suppliers, company representatives, and contacts.
  • Updates social media, promotions, monthly rental specials, website, and marketing for the Outdoor Adventure Center. Responsible for Rentals and Retail, Adventure Learning Excursions, and the Climbing Wall. Performs other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

High School graduation or GED plus three years of experience related to the essential functions of the position.


Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of outdoor equipment, places to recreate, and business management principles.
  • Knowledge of social media tools and optimization.
  • Proficient in computers and various programs including POS Systems, CSI, Word, Adobe, Illustrator, and Excel. 
  • Skills in Developing spreadsheets and budgets. 
  • Demonstrates professionalism and leadership in working with a variety of vendors, students, staff, faculty, and the community.
  • Ability to practice good judgment and decision-making. 
  • Ability to lead by example and supervise employees.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
