The Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute, a Department of Energy University Facility, is jointly supported by DOE and the State of Texas and is a major technical and educational resource for the state and the nation. At the Institute, we focus on conducting basic research, educating students in accelerator-based science and technology, and providing technical capabilities for a wide variety of applications in space science, materials science, analytical procedures and nuclear medicine. The Accelerator Technician I will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and repairing all components of the Cyclotron. The selected candidate will also monitor radiation levels and assure the safety of employees and security of the Cyclotron building. What You Need to Know

Salary: $20.90 per hour

Schedule: Ability to work in the rotating shift schedule, and fill in as needed.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • No prior experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to use basic hand tools

  • Basic electrical/mechanical aptitude

Preferred Education and Experience:

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of electronic and vacuum systems

Responsibilities:

  • CRYOGENIC SYSTEM ADJUSTMENTS: Perform basic Cryogenic system adjustments.

  • DATA LOG & RAM SYSTEM: Maintain data log. Monitor RAM Systems.

  • INTERLOCK CHECKS & BEAMLINES: Assist with interlock checks. Change modes and set up beamlines.

  • TROUBLESHOOT: Troubleshoot basic beam loss.

  • ENGINEERING STAFF: Work with engineering staff on facility-related projects.

  • CONTROL SYSTEM/VACUUM SYSTEM: Operate control systems and start/stop vacuum systems.

  • SEE LINE: Perform See line 2-key checks.

  • TUNE RF: Tune RF on accelerators, make basic machine adjustments and peak beam for experiments.

  • ASSIST EXPERIMENTERS & DAILY LAB: Assist experimenters with technical issues. Perform daily lab tasks. If an occasion arises, may need to pick up supplies on or off campus and perform other duties as assigned.
