DAY IN THE LIFE

The goal of the SSS Teacher Prep program is to student retention and academic success at TAMUCC.  As a Coordinator you will be assigned a caseload of students and meet with them monthly to ensure students are on track with academic courses.  Throughout a day you are meeting with students, reviewing files and/or updating information in our database.  You are also presenting on the program, creating marketing tools, creating and implementing educational workshops for students to attend.

HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE

  • Maintain and input student data in the student tracking system (BLUMEN online and paper student files) for eligibility criteria records and participant service records.
    • Compile information from the BLUMEN student database and student records for monthly progress reports.
    • Assist with compiling and submitting the annual performance report.
    • Create other reports as needed.
  • Serve as a mentor to students and provide guidance with all teacher certification necessities to include preparation for the STR, PPR and TExES exams.
    • Meet and assist students (approximately 40-50 cohort members) in reviewing their degree plans and registering for classes.
    • Meet monthly with students to discuss their progress with classes, assist with financial aid submission and assist with scholarship applications.
    • Meet with all cohort members (140) to ensure students understand the “State Program Participation Requirements” for the STR, TExES exams, and PPR
    • Prepare students for a career in teaching and/or graduate school.
  • Maintain and coordinate ongoing communication with students to ensure a smooth transition into their Teaching Certification semesters.
  • Coordinate, develop, and implement outreach and marketing of the program to ensure students are enrolling in the cohort.
  • Responsible for the oversight of graduate assistants including timesheets, semester schedules, and daily supervision of their interactions with the student cohort members.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with colleges and departments on campus, as well as organizations in the community that will help   students pass coursework and exams.
  • Coordinate and implement educational workshops and events in collaboration with other departments and colleges on campus and the community for educational, wellness, and career related purposes.
  • Develop and coordinate communications between university staff, education certification officers, and other national TRIO Teacher Prep programs by attending meetings and conference calls.
  • Maintain working knowledge of “State Program Participation Requirements” of the STR, TExES exams and PPR information for students as dictated by the university. Keep up to date with state information for certification exam testing by working with university personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others to be able to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.

WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE

  • Master’s Degree in applicable field.
  • Two (2) years of related experience
  • Texas State Certified Educator.
  • Coursework and/or training in best practices for increasing retention rates, GPAs, and graduation rates of disadvantaged students.
  • Experience working with underrepresented populations and/or with TRIO.
  • Bilingual capabilities.
  • WebEx capabilities for online student meetings.
  • Experience with Blumen database.

SALARY: $3,041 Approx. monthly ($36,500.00 Approx. annually)
