The Opportunity

We seek an Academic Programs Coordinator who will provide a full range of administrative support to the Directors of Graduate Studies (DGS), Program Coordinators, Director of Urban and Regional Studies (URS) and the department's six graduate degree programs (encompassing two fields – City and Regional Planning, and Regional Science) and one undergraduate degree. Under the general direction of the Department Manager, and in collaboration with the DGS, you will act as the primary administrative contact for all CRP students. Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Managing graduate field and allocation budgets.
  • Curriculum management.
  • Guiding students, faculty, and other administrative staff about academic requirements and policies.
  • Providing information and advice on regulations and procedures regarding degree requirements, admissions, student records, financial aid, and thesis/exit project completion within the CRP department.
  • Facilitating resolution of student issues and concerns.
  • Collecting and assisting in the analysis of data related to admissions, inquiries, degrees, etc.
  • Contributing to the development, implementation, and maintenance of various university and college databases for administering graduate programs.
  • Supporting registration, assistantships, scholarships, fellowships, grade submissions, and graduate admissions administration.
  • Collaborating with college staff in AAP Admissions, AAP Student Services, and AAP Communications, as well as those doing similar work in other AAP academic departments.
  • Collaborating with enrollment representatives across Cornell’s colleges, schools, and units to accomplish the University’s enrollment goals.

While position responsibilities vary, every member of our community is expected to foster a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others.

Hours and Location

The Academic Programs Coordinator role is a full-time, 40 hour per week, benefits-eligible position performed Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM, with a hybrid schedule of 4 days on campus and 1 day remote. However, in order to ensure mutual success, we’d like for you to be on campus Monday through Friday during the orientation and onboarding period, the length of which will be determined by your supervisor. You’re considered a competitive candidate if you:

  • Demonstrate independence and initiative in problem-solving, with confidence to tackle challenges and seek assistance when needed, fostering a culture of continual learning and growth.
  • Exhibit a dynamic and collaborative approach, capable of working both independently and as part of a team, maintaining a balance between teamwork and autonomous work to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Build trust through reliability and accountability, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively, pushing for excellence in a positive manner.
  • Can cultivate rapport with a diverse student body and faculty, fostering inclusive and equitable working relationships, integral to the academic experience and the success of collaborative initiatives.

What We Need

  • A dynamic communicator, skilled in both spoken and written interactions, driven by the desire to deliver exceptional service.
  • A relationship builder, adept at connecting with individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering strong and inclusive connections.
  • An independent thinker and team player, fostering collaborative and inclusive working environments among students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • Proven ability to quickly learn and adapt to new programs and procedures, always staying ahead of the curve.
  • Demonstrated commitment and experience in promoting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and well-being in all aspects of your work.

If you have all those things, great! We have a few more things that we would prefer you to have, but it’s ok if you don’t.
