Operating in close coordination with the Bursar Account Services (BAS) team, the Loan Servicing and Collections department addresses a spectrum of concerns affecting current student, alumni, and their families. The concerns may span financial aid, housing, dining services, student health plans, and other pertinent areas. The paramount objective of the Loan Servicing and Collections department is to ensure the provision of exceptional service standards while following all Federal, State, and university policies and regulations to collect owed funds to the university. The concerted effort aims to optimize the return of funds to the University's loan portfolios.

  • Assist the collection agencies with accounts receivable, communicate with borrowers, and negotiate settlements and payoffs on past-due accounts and loans.
  • Assist the manager with loan fund management and aging delinquency inventory.
  • Review and validate vendor invoices to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contractual terms.
  • Participate in highly critical and time-sensitive tasks that require exceptional organization and time management skills. Prioritize activities to meet deadlines.
  • Complete yearly AOR & FISAP report for the department. Ensure accurate and timely submission of financial data to regulatory authorities.
  • Review and evaluate university loans, and delinquent student billing receivables. Analyze trends and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Coordinate and manage the process for Student Loan Exit Interviews. Provide guidance to borrowers and ensure completion of documentation.
  • Answer emails and phone calls from students, families, vendors, and other Cornell departments. Provide prompt and professional assistance and resolve inquiries effectively.
  • Complete the Cornell University accounting certificate within 1 year of employment. Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and continuous learning.

The Senior Account Representative for the Loan Servicing and Collections team will serve as the principal backup to the Loan Servicing and Collections Manager.
