What We’re Looking For
The Academic Advisor position contributes to the mission and strategic plan of the School of Engineering and Computer Science by advising students concerning their academic goals and requirements. Advisors provide information on and refer students to university resources that can assist them in meeting their needs or solving problems.
Additionally, this position will advise an assigned cohort of students during the fall, spring, and summer orientation (200-250 students each semester); monitor and maintain advising records; answer daily questions from students, parents, faculty, staff, other advisors, and support staff; assist with Summer Orientation; assist with recruiting prospective ECS students; and perform additional related duties as assigned.
A bachelor's degree, up to one year of relevant work experience, and a Christian faith are required. A master’s degree and two years of experience are preferred. Experience will not be accepted in place of the educational requirement.

• Understanding of college student development and academic issues
• Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal, collaborative, and leadership skills
• Skilled in the organization and coordination of complex projects
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to interpret and implement general university policies and procedures
• Ability to research advising-related topics both internally and externally
• Commitment to diversity and ability to work with individuals or groups with diverse backgrounds
Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a Full-Time basis.
What You Will Do
• Assist students in developing educational plans, selecting academic courses, discussing academic progress, and documenting advising contacts
• Provide information on University resources available to students
• Assist new students with learning about advised majors and programs offered
• Prepare and update advising materials and degree plans
• Maintain relationships with University constituents
• Assist in planning and developing advising support services
• Ensure a high level of confidentiality
• Assist with recruiting initiatives, such as providing ECS tours and attending recruitment events
• Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
• Ability to comply with University policies
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance
