Description
Project Dates: Must start Early May 2022 – End September 2022 Inwater Research Group is looking for a full time (25-40 hours a week) temporary position focusing mainly on performing extensive morning sea turtle nest surveys in a project construction zone at the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant. Additional hours will be spent supporting the IRG team in their removal efforts at the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant Intake canal project.
Qualifications
Masters or Bachelor’s degree in a biology field is required. Experience identifying nesting crawls for Loggerhead, Green and Leatherback turtles is required. Experience verifying, marking and excavating Loggerhead, Green and Leatherback turtle nests to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission INBS standards is required. Experience working on medium to high density sea turtle nesting beaches (~800 crawls/km in a season) is desired. Experience handling sea turtles (preferably adults) is desired. Experience handling large marine animals (sharks, groupers, stingrays, etc.) is desired. Must be a good swimmer and comfortable in and around boats. Must be a team player and a good communicator. Must be comfortable with lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy weights often exceeding 100lbs. Much of our work at the power plant is in active industrial areas and one must be safety conscious. Must have a valid drivers license. Flexibility for odd, unexpected and long working hours.
