Garfield County is located in western Colorado and is experiencing a steady population and economic growth. According to the 2020 Census population, Garfield County has 61,685 residents, with 25% of the population under 18 years of age. The communities in Garfield County (Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, New Castle, Silt, Rifle, Battlement Mesa and Parachute) have diverse economies, shopping opportunities, and housing choices. Garfield County is primarily rural, with 60% public land. Outdoor recreation opportunities abound and include hunting, fishing, hiking, rafting, biking, skiing, and other activities typically associated with Colorado. The Extension office is in the town of Rifle. Rifle offers easy access to a major interstate highway (I-70) and is within a one-hour drive time of the Grand Junction airport. Position Summary | Colorado State University Extension and Garfield County are seeking a youth development professional with the experience and skills to lead a diverse and inclusive youth development program. The person will have a proven track record of developing and managing volunteers, building program capacity, creating innovative programming opportunities, and fostering both internal and external collaboration and teamwork. The Extension Agent will be an effective communicator with the experience and skills to engage with a variety of people and groups. The individual in this position provides leadership, guidance, and management to the 4-H youth development program in Garfield County and serves as part of the 4-H and youth development team in Garfield County. They work as a member of the local county Extension team and as a local representative of Colorado State University. This individual will work under the programmatic guidance of the State 4-H Office and will regularly collaborate with other Extension staff across program and county lines as well as actively participate on State 4-H teams and committees. |
