A community of problem-solvers dedicated to finding innovative solutions to the world’s biggest challenges, Imperial is committed to developing the next generation of researchers, scientists and academics through collaboration across disciplines.

Located in the heart of London, Imperial is an outward-looking multidisciplinary space for education, research, translation and commercialisation. The College’s mission is supported by 8,500 highly diverse staff, who collaborate widely in the UK and internationally, often across disciplines. In 2020-2021, the College had a total turnover of £1.079 billion, of which £452 million directly supported research through grants and contracts.  Over the past decade, Imperial has been developing, at White City, one of the most significant new campuses of any leading university in Europe.

Imperial is looking to appoint a new Vice-Provost (Research and Enterprise) to provide strategic leadership and coordination across the College to optimise and enhance the delivery of the College’s research and its translation. This will entail working closely with the faculties, Research Office and Enterprise Division to strengthen relationships with key funders and promote cross-faculty collaboration, identifying opportunities to diversify funding sources and partnership portfolio, and monitoring the implementation of the research elements of the College’s academic strategy. The Vice-Provost should ‘open doors’, nationally and internationally, so that the College can augment its national and global reach.

The appointed candidate will need to be dynamic, influential and an excellent networker, both internally and externally, with a track record of successful delivery in a significant academic leadership role. Proven excellence in academic research and credibility within and beyond the College will be key, as will the ability to work across the breadth of Imperial’s research and enterprise activities. The appointee will need to combine the analytical capacity to identify opportunities with the political astuteness and people and communication skills to deliver them in collaboration with colleagues, prioritising to maximise impact. The Deputy-Provost (Research and Enterprise) is expected to model Imperial’s values and demonstrate a strong commitment to equality and diversity, fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment.
