Job Purpose

To contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by undertaking a range of teaching, assessment and administrative duties, particularly in relation to the Media, Culture and Society MSc programme

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1.Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of PGT teaching within the media and cultural studies subject group[CH1] .

2.Deliver a range of teaching and assessment activities directed towards the delivery of large, international programmes.

3.Participate in a range of course administration duties, within required timescales, including effective communication of information, marking, assessment and timeous constructive feedback.

4. Assist with the development of appropriate teaching materials ensuring content and methods of delivery meet determined learning objectives.

5.Contribute to the effective use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision including the use of Moodle and other technologies

6. Apply knowledge of media, communications and culture to teaching that best meet the needs of individuals and small group seminar teaching to ensure an inclusive and evidence based approach that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.

7.Participate in the full assessment process using a variety of methods and techniques, including oral assessment, and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students that supports their learning.

8.Assist with the supervision of student projects, dissertations, and any practical work, advising on skills, methods and techniques to assist the transfer of knowledge, and respond appropriately to the diverse range of learner support/ needs.

9. Facilitate student engagement and pastoral support and contribute towards a positive student experience

10. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate, including PgCap.

11. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.

12. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing The World.

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1.SCQF Level 10 [Honours degree] in a relevant subject or a cognate discipline, or equivalent.

A2.Specialist conceptual and practical understanding of media, culture and society.

Desirable

B1. PHD in a relevant subject or a cognate discipline.

B2. Knowledge of media research methods and the ability to apply these to develop innovative learning materials and teaching methods.

Skills

Essential:

C1. Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

C2.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

C3 Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly.

Desirable 

D1.Evidenced ability to work with large international cohorts ensuring inclusive classrooms.

Experience

Essential:

E1.1-2 years relevant experience of teaching within the social sciences.

E2.Relevant administrative experience [e.g. student support, course administration etc].

Desirable:

F1.Experience of embedding new technologies in teaching.

F2.Experience of supervision of student dissertations and projects.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 6, £32,332 - £36,024 per annum.

This post is full time and fixed term for up to 15 Months.
