This is a fantastic opportunity to join a multi-campus University working across multi-disciplinary teams within both our Infrastructure and Security portfolios. You will have the opportunity to contribute to and lead on technology solution design and implementation, complex problem resolution and ongoing service enhancement in relation to the University’s entire Infrastructure technology stack including compute, storage, backup, DR and virtualisation.

These technologies span infrastructure deployments across multiple data centers, local production and DR environments, hyperconverged on-prem and cloud deployments. The role will develop skills in multiple technologies and vendor platforms such as Linux, EMC, Dell and VMware and require specific competencies in areas of Linux system administration, compute platform configuration and virtualisation.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:  

• Engaging with key stakeholders in relation to the deployment and implementation of Hyperconverged architectures based on VMWare solutions.

• Keep up to date with the latest Infrastructure technology developments, through training or via research in order to support, maintain and enhance a multi-vendor environment.

• Lead from the front on troubleshooting Infrastructure based issues, have the ability to analyse the issue at hand, communicate effectively and resolve via stakeholder engagement.

• Support and enhance currently deployed leading edge Infrastructure configurations and lead with the technical design and implementation of new technologies.

The Ideal Person:  

• Essential hands on experience supporting and administering Linux variant platforms.

• Deep understanding and experience of VMware vCenter and ESXi.

• Specialist expertise supporting virtual environments hosted in VMWare, deployed both within HCI configurations (ideally VXRail) and non-converged compute architectures.

• Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking and LAN technologies, including IP address configuration and troubleshooting.

• Proven personal management including the ability to work unsupervised and efficiently organise workloads.

• Strong interpersonal skills, customer centric attitude, ability to deal with diversity and the ability to articulate technical issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
