Birmingham City University - Security Services department currently has a vacancy for an SIA Door Supervision (DS) licensed Security Officers to join our dynamic team. 

The main emphasis of the team is to provide a professional, efficient and approachable security service whilst at all times maintaining a high level of customer service to students, staff and visitors and to make the Birmingham City University a safe and tranquil working environment.  This encourages and supports students and staff in achieving their academic/work ambitions and provides residential students with a service which is unobtrusive but secure.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Static Reception desk duties providing friendly, courteous, efficient and effective front-line assistance to students, staff and visitors, whilst upholding high standards and acting as ambassadors for the University. 
  • Attending and managing emergency response-type incidents (i.e. immediate alarms/emergency evacuations/First Aid situations etc.)
  • Protective operations, including lengthy internal building and external campus walking patrols. 
  • Dealing with miscellaneous issues, many of which may be Security, Facilities, Estates or Health and Safety related concerns.
  • Security Control Room duties, i.e. CCTV operations, dealing with telephone enquiries and incoming alarms.
  • Conduct routine checks to ensure the Estate, it’s property and equipment is secure, safe and operational.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Security Industry Authority (SIA) Door Supervision (DS) Licence
  • Previous, significant, experience in a similar corporate, concierge Security role
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in using various IT systems and software (predominantly Microsoft Office)
  • Flexibility, punctuality and reliability
  • The ability to work alternating shifts

Desirable  

  • NVQ Level 2 or higher qualification in Safety/Security/Risk and Loss Prevention subject matters
  • Public Space Surveillance experience (SIA CCTV Licence)
  • First Aid Qualification
  • Experience working within a Higher Education security environment
  • Full UK driving licence
