Resource Manager

Location: Pontypridd, WALES
Deadline: 29 Feb 2024

The University of South Wales’ 2030 Strategy has a key enabler which focusses on Operational Transformation.  It states that we will:

  • Support and take pride in our focused, talented and ambitious staff
  • Maintain an inclusive workforce, champion diversity, foster collaboration and well-being
  • Provide flexible, digitally enhanced environments to encourage innovative teaching, research &  collaborative work practices
  • Embrace effective and efficient service delivery to support long-term sustainability
  • Grow and diversify our income to generate surpluses for re-investment in our core purpose

The postholder will have a supporting role in the management and oversight of the resources and budget required to deliver the Transformation programme, both financial and human. The role will operate across the University (and potentially University Group) to support the planning and delivery of the programme. Reporting through to the Future Strategy Board and Executive Team in respect of delivery and implementation, this role will play a key supporting role in maximising USW’s capacity for growth and success.  The role will support the development of business cases, scoping resource requirements, and monitoring delivery, assessing risk of resource availability and tracking of financial benefits.  The role holder will work with colleagues across the University and will work with external contractors and suppliers.

The successful candidate will understand the higher education environment, identify current and likely future resource needs for delivery of the portfolio of work and work with others in supporting the transformation and BAU change requirement across the university’s departments, including change in operating models.  Delivery will be focussed on end-to-end improvement and focus on the benefits to the University’s development and the experience of staff and students.  A good understanding of the parallel needs of IT Services and business areas will be vital for delivery.   Substantial experience of supporting business change and benefits realisation in a large, complex organisation from a resources perspective, specifically experience of systems implementation which transforms the customer experience and end to end optimisation of organisational efficiency will be essential.

The individual will support the leadership team in reporting to the Executive Team and the Board of Governors, communicating between internal and external parties, and acting as a 'translator' where necessary to convey how transforming areas of the university can support the organisation's needs and realise benefits.  Ensuring projects are delivered on time and to budget, will be vital.

This is a full time, permanent post.

The university is currently operating a hybrid-model of working. However, the successful candidate would be expected to work on campus for part of the week.

We withhold the right to close applications earlier than the advertised date.
