We are seeking a well-qualified quantitative researcher to work with multi-disciplinary international teams on the Novo Nordisk-funded RISK project entitled ‘Risk Assessment of Mosquito-borne Diseases in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania Based on Deep Learning and Remote Sensing’. The role will involve statistical analysis and mathematical modelling of entomological and epidemiological data collected during household surveys conducted in urban areas of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to identify risk areas of mosquito-borne diseases. 

The post-holder will be based in the UK, working with colleagues in Tanzania and Denmark. The post-holder will be expected to visit partner institutions in Tanzania and Denmark to support capacity development in statistics and data collection in these institutions when such visits are appropriate and safe, for up to six months of the year.

The ideal candidate will have a postgraduate education with a Masters and/or PhD in medical statistics or a related discipline, experience of statistical packages such as Stata and R, and experience of working in multidisciplinary teams. Excellent analytical, communication, organisational and problem-solving skills are essential. The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to take initiative, to work both independently and collaboratively, and to confidently manage concurrent activities to meet agreed timelines. The post is fixed term until 13 August 2026 and full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE. The post is funded by Novo Nordisk and is available from 1 February 2024. The salary will be on the Academic Grade 6 scale in the range £43,947 - £49,908 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London.
