Offer Description

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to support the Mind & Skin consortium, led by Professor Carsten Flohr, Chair in Dermatology and Population Health Sciences at King’s College London. This project brings together a consortium of senior investigators from King’s College London, Surrey and Oxford Universities.

Mind & Skin is an ambitious collaborative, multidisciplinary programme funded by the Medical Research Foundation that, for the first time, brings together expertise from paediatric dermatology, sleep medicine, imaging science, immunology, machine learning/AI, psychiatry and cognitive neuroscience to examine the links between Atopic Dermatitis (AD), pruritus, sleep disturbance and altered brain function, including cognitive changes, such as inattention and hindered executive function, and psychiatric sequelae. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6MRTNxDoqo

You will provide high-level, proactive, comprehensive and efficient study management, technical and administrative support for the Mind & Skin project.

The role requires flexible working during patient visits due to device set-ups that occur in the late afternoon, 1-2 times a week.

This role will suit a candidate with excellent IT, administrative and organisational skills who can work accurately, with close attention to detail in a busy environment. The post holder will have very good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with patients and colleagues from the wider research team.

You will be able to work both independently and as part of the wider Mind & Skin team, including our Clinical Research Practitioner, Clinical Research Fellow and PhD Fellows and demonstrate a flexible approach to work and meet deadlines using initiative and judgement to prioritise competing demands.

Please contact Professor Carsten Flohr ([email protected] ) for further information on the post.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term basis until 31st January 2026.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent; 5 days a week.

The requirements of the post would be to be present in the office for 3-4 days a week, depending on study activities, which can be reviewed after 6 months. This will have to be approved by the Line Manager, keeping in line with the King’s hybrid working model.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist Mind & Skin clinical study visits, which includes booking appointments, screening and liaising with participants, preparing for and attending the study visits located at St Thomas’ Hospital and Denmark Hill
  • Ensure stock used for clinical studies is maintained using relevant software
  • Purchase goods and services within the research group where required
  • Oversee and be responsible for the maintenance, servicing and repairs of equipment in the research group
  • Conduct in-house audits of -80C freezer to ensure tracking of samples collected from clinical studies across the research group
  • Prepare and present findings of research activity to colleagues within the Mind & Skin project for review purposes
  • Contribute as co-author to publications arising from the Mind & Skin project
  • Minute taking of meetings
  • Follow and update existing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the clinical study
  • Assist in writing new SOPs for the clinical study
  • Comply with the ethical regulations imposed by King’s College London, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships within the Mind & Skin team but also the wider Paediatric & Population-Based Dermatology team
  • Support other Research Assistant activities within the Paediatric & Population-Based Dermatology Research Group
  • In all of the above, act proactively and exercise judgement and provide work output to a high standard all while acting with the utmost professionalism, discretion and confidentiality

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.
