Research Fellow in Propulsion Aerodynamics

Fixed Term Contract for 24 months

Flexible working will be actively considered

Full time starting salary is normally in the range of £37,337 to £39,316 per annum

An appointment could be initially made at Research Assistant level (starting salary ranging from £28,203 to £31,230 per annum, until full completion of PhD)

Location: Cranfield, Bedfordshire

We welcome applications from prospective Research Fellows/Post-Docs to join our Gas Turbine Technology Group. This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of aircraft-engine integration and contribute to sustainable aviation advances.

About the Role

You will be working closely with world leading researchers and industrial engineers on the aerodynamic design and analysis of aero-engine intake, nacelle and exhaust systems. The work will also encompass considerable research effort on computational modelling of propulsion system integration under cruise and high-lift conditions. One element of the collaborative part of the research will centre around the evaluation of the aerodynamic integration and the overall structural loads of the aero-engine.

About You

You will hold a PhD (or close to completion) in Aerospace Propulsion, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Aerodynamics or related subject with a track record of publishing in high quality journals.

Good skills in engineering computing and programming are required and experience of optimisation methods would be beneficial. Ability to communicate clearly at a technical level and capability of clearly summarising objectives and achievements for briefing colleagues and project partners is also essential. Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to obtain UK Security Clearance (BPSS).

In return, the successful applicant will have exciting opportunities for career development in this key research position, and will be at the forefront of world leading research and education, joining a supportive team and environment.
