The Mental Health and Addiction Research Group (MHARG) at the Department of Health Sciences is looking to appoint a Research Associate to play a leading role in a new research study funded by NIHR aiming to develop an intervention to help nurses improve the assessment and care of the sexual health needs of men with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (The MenSH-IBD Study).
The main purpose of the role is to manage the day-to-day delivery of the MenSH-IBD study by facilitating, contributing to, and monitoring research activities. Key duties will include: data collection; analysis and interpretation of research data; use of appropriate research techniques and methods (quantitative and qualitative); writing up of research results and dissemination through publications, seminar and conference presentations and public engagement and outreach activities; contributing to the identification of possible new areas of research. Previous experience of NHS-based intervention research projects and mixed methods research, particularly survey methods, is an advantage.

The post-holder will be part of a large and successful academic group with a strong track record in applied health research. The work will be undertaken with support from other members of the multidisciplinary team and under the supervision of Principal Investigators, Professor Paul Galdas at the University of York, and Mrs Sara Ma at York St. John University.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
- First Degree in relevant subject area or equivalent professional qualifications.
- PhD in relevant subject area or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of a range of quantitative and qualitative research techniques and methodologies relevant to applied health research (e.g. surveys and qualitative interviews).
- Knowledge and understanding of the routine practices and procedures in research.
- Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide-ranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media.
- Ability to write up research work for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination.
- Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals for own and joint research, with the assistance of a mentor if required.
- Experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research.
