Research Associate (Tyser Lab) (Fixed Term)

Updated: about 2 years ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 10 May 2022

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the group of Dr Richard Tyser within the Wellcome - MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (CSCI) based at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The Wellcome - Medical Research Council Cambridge Stem Cell Institute is an international centre of excellence for stem cell research and regenerative medicine (https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/ ).

The Tyser Lab studies how the mammalian heart forms during embryonic development, addressing questions of fundamental biological importance and their potential clinical application. It has been well documented that the mammalian heart begins beating from an early stage, raising the important question of how and when the initiation of function occurs and to what extent this defines and influences the progression of differentiation and subsequent cardiac morphogenesis. Our work focuses on understanding how cardiac function is initiated during development as well as examining how different progenitor cell types differentiate to give rise to the diverse range of cardiac cell types.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our research group looking at the formation of the heart. The successful candidate will benefit from building upon novel datasets, exciting preliminary findings, and using unique experimental model systems. Techniques will include multiple imaging approaches (timelapse, calcium, high-resolution whole mount immunohistochemistry and in situ HCR), single cell-based platforms, hiPSC differentiation and general molecular biology techniques. Experience in stem cell culture, mouse genetic models or computational analysis would be an advantage. It is essential that the successful candidate can work both independently and as part of a research team, having good communication and organisational skills.
