Job summary

The Airwave Health Monitoring Study is a large cohort study that focuses on possible health effects associated with the use of Terrestrial Trunked Radio, a digital communication system used by the police forces and other emergency services in Great Britain since 2001. As a tissue bank the study has immense value to look at the long-term general health and wellbeing of a key ‘front-line’ service, with impact on both occupational and public health. The study also has its own bio-repository with sample backups and has a range of omic data from genetics and epigenetics to metabolomics.

The post is funded by a research grant from the Medical Research Council (MRC) to carry out epidemiological studies in the Airwave cohort.


Duties and responsibilities

Key responsibilities include: generating consolidated datasets through data management, cleaning, validation and linkage; conducting statistical data analyses and designing suitable algorithms; developing process enhancements to improve data quality.


Essential requirements

You will have a PhD degree in statistics/biostatistics, epidemiology or relevant quantitative discipline. At a Research Assistant level, you will have an undergraduate degree in statistics/biostatistics, epidemiology or relevant quantitative discipline. You should also have demonstrable experience handling large complex medical research datasets and strong statistical skills at a Research Associate level.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477 - £38,566 per annum.

This is a full-time position for one year in the first instance.
