Research Assistant / Associate in energy systems modelling and analysis (2 Posts)

We seek to recruit two highly motivated Research Assistant/Associates with proven intellectual and technical ability to conduct research in the area of modelling and analysis of multi-energy systems. Depending on their expertise, the candidates will be expected to contribute to on-going research activities in CIREGS (Centre for Integrated Renewable Energy Generation and Supply) that concern (1) optimal design and operation of district heating, cooling and electricity systems, and (2) estimating flexibility and energy demand (electricity, heating and cooling) of buildings in the UK at appropriate temporal (e.g. half hourly time resolution over a year) and spatial (from post code to national level) resolutions, under selected decarbonisation scenarios.

The candidates are expected to be self-starters and resourceful team-players with an appetite for working with the industry. The successful candidates will also contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University, carrying out research leading to the publishing of work in high quality research. To pursue excellence in research and to inspire others to do the same.


These posts are full time, 35 hours per week and are fixed term until 31 March 2026.

The prospective candidates will become a member of the CIREGS research group  within the School of Engineering. CIREGS leads and is involved in a number of large research and development projects in the UK. The prospective candidates will further benefit from an opportunity to attend award-winning courses, workshops and careers advice organised by Cardiff University specifically aimed at researchers throughout their career to develop research and professional skills.  

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications, skills and experience, within the Grade 5 or Grade 6 scale.

Salary:
£32,332 - £34,980 per annum (Grade 5 - Research Assistant).  We do not anticipate appointing this position above point 25, £32,332 per annum or
£39,347 - £44,263 per annum (Grade 6 - Research Associate).  We do not anticipate appointing this position above point 32, £39,347 per annum.
