About the opportunity

This position will be based in the University Centre for Rural Health, Northern Rivers, based in Lismore. The UCRH provides multidisciplinary health education and research program that supports workforce development and translation of research into practice to support regional health. The UCRH is based with the University of Sydney, Faculty of Medicine and Health, in collaboration with the Universities of Wollongong, Western Sydney and Southern Cross University. The UCRH education program encompasses the disciplines of Allied Health, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry and Medicine, and provides students with clinical placement opportunities, structured learning programs in a multi-disciplinary environment, and an immersion in the elements of rurality and social equity. The education program is delivered on behalf of the Commonwealth's Rural Health Multi-disciplinary Training program. The research program of UCRH includes strengths in Aboriginal health research, environmental health research, public health research, and health services research.

In this role, you will be focused on supporting research and evaluation for an aged care grant, in which we are evaluating innovative education models to improve the quality of life of older people living in residential facilities and in community. The position will work with the University Centre for Rural Health (UCRH) multi-disciplinary team and key collaborators to progress priority projects and work programs, including evaluation, research planning and research translation.

Day to day decisions will be made in consultation with other team members based at the UCRH, although the Research role will be required to demonstrate initiative and work independently. More substantial decisions will be referred to the governance structure for the project/s. There may be other research and evaluation activities required outside of the aged care grant, which will be at the discretion of the Director, Head of Clinical School.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • support development and implementation of an evaluation plan to support the aged care multi-disciplinary education program. This will include preparation of literature reviews, ethics applications, data collection, data analysis and implementation
  • work closely with multidisciplinary health team to support research and education evaluation activities, with a focus on the aged care grant, and may include other projects, as directed
  • contribute to research dissemination and translation activities, including contributing to the development of peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations and reports
  • support governance and policy processes, including reporting to the Management Committee, and coordinating committee meetings, as applicable
  • assist with organisation of meetings, seminars, workshops and related events to support co-design and stakeholder engagement of project/s and enhance the intellectual life and productivity of projects
  • ensure compliance with ethical and governance requirements for project/s
  • any other tasks or projects as reasonably required by the Head of Clinical School.

About you

For Level A

  • undergraduate degree, in health or related field
  • excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated through written works such as research reports, research publications and through presentations at conferences, committees, and seminars
  • demonstrated experience in successful management of collaborative projects
  • demonstrated experience in evaluation of education programs
  • high level interprofessional skills and ability to collaborate in a collegiate manner
  • high level organisational skills: the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, initiate and follow-up actions, with limited supervision
  • hold a valid driver's licence as some travel will be required

For Level B (In addition to the above)

  • have a PhD or equivalent higher research degree / work experience in health services research and program evaluation
  • have had at least 3 research outputs in the last 3 years
