About Us

Based at our Docklands and Stratford campuses, the School of Health, Sport and Bioscience has experienced considerable growth over the last 5 years, approximately 10-15% per annum, and has now grown to over 2,500 students. In addition, we are currently rapidly developing our postgraduate and research programmes involving wide collaboration in the UK and overseas. 

The School of Health, Sport and Bioscience brings together UEL’s innovative research and teaching in the subject areas of Sport, Bioscience, Allied Health Professions (Professional Health Sciences), Nursing and Health Studies. From the recent REF we are the top modern University in London for Unit 3, 8th in the country and in the top 50% of all submissions across the country, with the majority of our research judged at international or international excellence with some world-leading outputs. Current key research themes focus on the management of chronic diseases and development of new therapies. Such research is carried out in close collaboration with international and national partners, including local NHS Trusts.

THE STAR PROJECT

Funded by OfS and Research England to support projects to increase the participation of individuals from global majority in research careers. The STAR project expands our understanding of a research career through five work packages designed to promote research advocacy and to showcase the role of research in different career paths and organisations. The project will aim to improve participants understanding of how social justice can be advanced through research advocacy. The STAR project has several work packages including: a new MRes suite of courses in Social Justice with disciplinary specialisms in Biosciences, Social Research, Performance and Business; a CPD course for community and voluntary sector groups seeking to increase their research capacity; an extended ProfDoc programme; a package to build research understanding and advocacy skills with undergraduates and postgraduates; an outreach package to work with local schools to widen understanding and importance of advocacy of research. The project runs until October 2025.

About the Job

This role offers an exciting opportunity to assist in the delivery of the STAR Project. Particularly the outreach activity with local schools. The postholder will also have time to develop their research profile in collaboration with Professor Morgan and colleagues in the School of Health Sport and Bioscience

  • To assist with managing the STAR projects as required.
  • To liaise with local schools and students and coordinate the delivery of the STAR workshops in schools and at UEL.
  • To help with the preparation of material to validate a new Prof. Doc for the STAR project.
  • To coordinate the training of PGR and UG students on research Advocacy.
  • To attend and participate in relevant project meetings.
  • To develop/ build upon your own research/academic profile. 

About You

  • A MSc or PhD in a relevant field including but not limited to: Bioscience, Sports Public Health, or a related field.
