Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to support the TRANS-FOODS project, led by Professor Carsten Flohr, Chair in Dermatology and Population Health Sciences at King’s College London. This project brings together a consortium of senior investigators from Charité Berlin (Prof Martina Meinke), Bonn University (Prof Natalija Novak) and Institut Curie in Paris (Dr Elodie Segura). The study aims to understand how peanut processing and co-administration with oils influence the development of peanut allergy through the skin.

The Clinical Research Assistant will provide high-level, proactive, comprehensive and efficient technical and administrative support for the TRANS-FOODS project, in particular the TRANS-FOODS Study Manager and for the Unit for Paediatric & Population-Based Dermatology Research.
This role will suit a candidate with excellent IT and organisational skills who can work accurately, with close attention to detail in a busy environment.
The successful applicant will be able to work both independently and as part of the wider TRANS-FOODS team, demonstrate a flexible approach to work and meet deadlines using initiative and judgement to prioritise competing demands. In addition, they will have very good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
This post would be suitable for someone to identify a topic for a higher degree (PhD), which could build on the TRANS-FOODS project.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term basis (end date 31st August 2025).
This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent; 5 days a week.
The requirements of the post would be to be present in the office for 3-4 days a week, depending on study activities, which can be reviewed after 6 months. This will have to be approved by the Line Managers keeping in line with the King’s hybrid working model.
Key Responsibilities
- To assist TRANS-FOODS clinical study visits, which includes screening and liaising with participants, preparing for and attending the study visits.
- To ensure stock used for clinical studies is maintained using relevant software and purchase of goods and services within the research group where required.
- Overseeing and being responsible for the maintenance, servicing and repairs of equipment in the research group.
- Conducting in-house audits of -80C freezer to ensure tracking of samples collected from clinical studies across the research group.
- Prepare and present findings of research activity to colleagues within the TRANS-FOODS project for review purposes.
- Contribute to publications arising from the TRANS-FOODS project.
- Minute taking of meetings.
- To follow and update existing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the clinical study.
- Assist in writing new SOPs for the clinical study.
- Compliance with the ethical regulations imposed by King’s College London, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust.
- To establish and maintain excellent working relationships within the TRANS-FOODS team but also the wider Paediatric & Population-Based Dermatology team.
- The post holder may be asked to support other Research Assistant activities within the Paediatric & Population-Based Dermatology Research Group.
- In all of the above, acting proactively and exercising judgement and providing work output to a high standard and acting with the utmost professionalism, and discretion, and ensuring confidentiality.
