About the Role
This fixed-term post focuses on the development and validation of Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) systems utilising a range of existing Cranfield facilities, such as Multi-User Environment for Autonomous Vehicle Innovation (MUEAVI), PNT simulator, Research and Innovation Timing Node and supporting research projects in the area of Intelligent Transport Systems, Autonomy, Navigation and Synchronization for Autonomous Systems. As Research Assistant you will be developing prototype systems based on Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) components, designing and implementing into the prototype system algorithms for data acquisition, processing and fusion for a diverse range of sensors including inertial and satellite navigation systems (IMU, GNSS and LEO), cameras and timing sources. You will be also supporting testing and validation activities utilizing MUEAVI capabilities and mobile platforms for the delivery of research projects.
About You
You will be educated to MSc level (or close to completion) in an Aerospace Engineering or Computer Science and knowledgeable in hardware and software for multi-sensor systems within mobile platforms or cyber-physical systems and have experience of management research using both qualitative and quantitative methods. With excellent communication skills, you will have expertise in the implementation of sensor data acquisition, processing, and sensor fusion in the hardware. A background in machine learning applications for these tasks would be an advantage. You will be confident in using modelling and simulation tools for autonomous system applications and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
