Research Fellow in Mesoscale Modelling

Updated: 21 days ago
Location: Cranfield, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 07 May 2024

Location: Cranfield, Bedfordshire

We welcome applications for this exciting post from those with relevant knowledge and experience in crystal plasticity.

About the Role

You will be part of a team delivering multiscale modelling predictions on several research projects. The work aims to develop and implement crystal plasticity models to inform engineering plastic deformation models, with particular emphasis on their parameterisation. You will join a unique research environment that will allow you to perform leading research in mesoscale mechanics and the broad area of modelling metallic materials with physics-based models. This is a multidisciplinary team, interacting with various researchers and working with a range of modelling techniques and experiments. You will also have opportunities for personal development and to liaise with other universities/industries.

About You

You will be educated to doctoral level (or close to completion) in solid mechanics or materials science, with relevant experience in developing and performing crystal plasticity simulations and microstructure-sensitive modelling in finite element software such as Abaqus or Ansys. With a developing track record of publishing in high-quality journals, you will have excellent coding skills. Excellent communication, planning, organising and problem-solving skills are also essential in this role. Experience with modelling high strain rate materials and a background in uncertainty quantification are desirable.

About Us
