The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Newcastle University, contributing to a challenging research project and supporting with the management of associated projects, with the overall aim to develop highly ultra-efficient electric power drive trains for electric vehicles. This project is funded and commanded by GKN Automotive a global leader in e-drives technologies. This project covers two main activities: conducting multi-disciplinary research in the field of power electronics, machines and electric drives and co-ordinating adjunct projects that are all running in parallel. We are collaborating with the University of Nottingham, and each leading academic group is researching on specific power electronics, machines and drives activities. You must have experience in a closely related field of expertise and have an aptitude for working in collaboration with a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team. Ideally you will be able to demonstrate industrial work experience. We are seeking a co-operative individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Your investigations, and the overall demonstration of your work will enable our dedicated group to communicate findings with key industrial and academic stakeholders and partners.

This project presents you with the following prospects:

  • The opportunity to collaborate with industrial experts on automotive, in particular in electric vehicles;
  • The opportunity to develop novel solutions for power electronics, machines and drives jointly with another university;
  • Become part of Driving the Electric Revolution network, a key initiative of the UK government;
  • Publishing research in high quality journals and present papers at international conferences.
