The Department of Philosophy at the University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a Professor, with demonstrable research and teaching excellence, working in any area of philosophy.

For the first three years of your appointment you will take on the role of Head of Department.

We believe in an inclusive working environment for all. So, we are welcoming, supportive and caring, and pride ourselves on our positive community. Diversity is vital to our success and fundamental to our values. We want to raise our performance in producing world-class philosophy for a diverse audience of students and scholars. We are, therefore, particularly keen to receive applications from people currently underrepresented in philosophy, such as those of marginalised genders (e.g. women, non-binary, trans), people with disabling conditions, and people from racially minoritised backgrounds.

You will contribute to an exceptional education for undergraduates and postgraduates in philosophy and make a full contribution to the Department’s research profile and culture. You will be keen to pursue opportunities for impact, public engagement, and interdisciplinarity.

Shortlisting is anonymous: we cannot see any personal data or the 'Additional Information' section in your application until shortlisting is completed. Shortlisting is by criteria-based questions, rather than a CV or letter.

This is a permanent, full-time (36.25 hours per week) post, commencing 1st August 2024.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Jonathan Tallant, Head of the School of Humanities, email: [email protected]; please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
