Academic Registry is looking to appoint a Professional Investigating Officer on a permanent basis. This is an exciting role, created to support our regulations and procedures for student casework, delivering professional investigation of cases.
The role is critical in ensuring student complaints and conduct cases are investigated in line with sector expectations, regulatory and legal requirements. You will ensure that students feel they have been listened to; that their concerns have been taken seriously and that they have been addressed fairly. Consequently, you will have excellent communication skills and will be approachable and friendly while maintaining a professional independence, confidentiality and remaining neutral when investigating cases. You will have the ability to convey difficult messages empathetically and persuasively. You will also be able to write excellent reports that are evidence-based, distilling information and presenting it clearly and accurately for senior colleagues and panels to make decisions. You will have the confidence to present your reports at hearings.
We are seeking someone with a positive attitude who has developed their skills and experience from working in a related role, for example in an area such as customer complaints, case-handling, investigative or legal roles.
Whilst the role is primarily focused on undertaking investigations, you will also contribute to the dissemination of learning, provide development to Faculty Investigating Officers and work with the Head of Student Casework and the team to enhance related regulations and procedures.
The role may require working with young or vulnerable people and will require compliance with the University’s Safeguarding policies.
Academic Registry is one of USW’s professional service departments, delivering a range of key administration and information services for students throughout their studies, from enrolment to graduation. We also oversee arrangements for academic quality assurance and enhancement and provide casework services for students.
This is a full-time permanent role. The University is currently operating a hybrid model of working; however, you will be expected to work on campus for part of the week. While the role will be based in Academic Registry at Pontypridd, you may also be required to work at the University’s other campuses at Cardiff and Newport.
Benefits on offer include 35 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, a generous pension scheme and family friendly policies. A flexible approach to working hours may be necessary, with some work occasionally taking place outside normal office hours.
Our people are our most important resource. We aim to enable staff to develop careers within the Academic Registry and across the wider HE sector, offering developmental and career enhancing opportunities. We embrace the University’s Core Values and the Association of University Administrators ‘Professional Behaviours Framework’.
