The Opportunity 

To be part of an innovative and groundbreaking collaboration between the world’s leading malting company, Boortmalt and the University of Nottingham. A project you will own in which you will apply academic knowledge to a real-world, real industry challenge. In short this is an opportunity to fast track your career by managing a strategic project with potential to transform a business.

The Project

This is a unique opportunity to help revolutionise malt roasting by applying new microwave technology to create sustainable and innovative products, at the same time reducing energy consumption and increasing control of the process. 

A Unique Experience

You will gain experience in the highly competitive and innovative Brewing, Distilling and Craft beverage sectors. To build your knowledge of the process you will have the opportunity to travel to some of the plants across the Boortmalt group - there are 27 plants across 5 continents. 

You will be supported throughout the project with full access to university resources, along with mentoring to nurture your talent and a £5,000 training budget to develop your skill set.  

The person we are looking for

  • Passionate about delivering novel solutions to commercial challenges
  • Driven and resilient to lead the project
  • Curious to question and understand
  • Collaborative – with the skills to engage and work closely with the operational sites, academics and other stakeholders.  

The skills we need

  • Experience in delivering successful industrial / research projects
  • A degree in Chemical/Materials/Processing/Food Engineering or other relevant area
  • Experience of high temperature processes is desirable.

This is a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Pauls Malt Ltd and the University of Nottingham.

Pauls Malt Ltd is the UK entity of Boortmalt, the world’s leading malting Company. Their expertise is widely acknowledged by brewers, distillers, and food industries, who rely on the supply of top-quality barley malts. The group has operations on 5 continents with 27 malting plants.

The details 

  • A fixed term 30-month contract funded through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, a UK Government scheme enabling graduates (KTP Associates) to work on exciting, challenging projects in a partnership between a business and a university.
  • Based at Boortmalt’s Bury St Edmunds site.
